Classic Visions

A Book to Benefit the MPTF Retirement Community

No matter who you are, you

have a favorite movie moment,

and Hollywood pros are no

exception. Gathered within the

pages of “Classic Visions” are

the unique movie memories of

notable industry insiders. Some are behind the scenes collaborators, while others are on-screen legends, but all who have shared their special memories are people who, through their work, have inspired the dreams of many.

In “Classic Visions” these dream makers describe a favorite movie moment, and how it has moved them, inspired them or effected their lives. Each entry is paired with a photo of the contributor and art work from the corresponding film.

All proceeds from “Classic Visions” will be donated to the Motion Picture and Television Fund Retirement Community as a way of saying thanks for the memories.

About the book

As the Creator and Editor of ClassicFilmSchool.com it’s no secret I’m a huge fan of classic Hollywood. And by living in the heart of Tinseltown I have had more than my fair share of close encounters with the stars of yesterday, even the occasional living legend. These meetings have always been wonderful moments for me as I convey my admiration for the work of the artist.

But a handshake and a kind word doesn’t nearly express my gratitude for the large amount of happiness I have received via the talents of so many who have committed their lives to the art of the silver screen. I wanted to give back in a more meaningful way that will have a lasting and tangible effect, especially for the older artists who now enjoy a quiet retirement at the Motion Picture Fund Retirement Community and depend upon the organization for their daily life.

Inspired by a book about people’s favorite vacation spots, “My Favorite Place on Earth” by my friend Jerry Camarillo Dunn, and the “Word of Mouth” segments on TCM (Turner Classic Movies), I realized I was in a unique position to gather entries for a book that would reflect the gratitude of the entire film industry. With the proceeds of “Classic Visions” going entirely to the MPTF Retirement Community each book purchase will continue that gift of gratitude.

Many years before Tony Curtis worked with the legendary Cary Grant, he held his breath in a darkened theater and watched silently as his childhood screen idol maneuvered the Sea of Japan in Destination Tokyo.

The moment in which Grant spies the enemy through a periscope inspired the young man to not only join the Navy, but to use his GI Bill to attend acting school once he was discharged from service. Curtis later moved to Los Angeles and

An Excerpt from Tony Curtis’ Favorite Movie Moment

THE LATEST 5/16/12: I recently had two really great interviews for the book. One was yesterday with director Joe Dante, and I finished another just moments ago with screen legend Eva Marie Saint. Dante was full of admiration for the sci-fi films of the 1950s and Ms. Saint shared an unexpected favorite that inspired her to fulfill a life long desire. I won’t tell you yet what either had to say yet, but Dante’s pick is in step with his future as a filmmaker, and Ms. Saint’s choice will surprise you. It happens to be one of the first classic films I ever saw. How’s that for a tease?
